The Falcons made a huge move last night, swapping 1st round picks, next year's 1st and 4th, and I think a 3rd and 4th this year. I don't have it in front of me right now, but I think that's the breakdown.
They wanted to get AJ Green with the 4th pick, but got Julio Jones with the 5th pick.
Everybody in the world thought we needed defense. I'm included as being "in the world".
However, after the initial shock wore off, I considered the move.
Obviously, they must have thought we need more explosion on offense. If we can score more points, it will help out the defense for a couple of reasons.
1) make the other offense 1 dimensional if we're scoring more points because they'll be forced to pass
2). Make our defense more relaxed and play loose if we can put some points on the board early.
Our defense? Well, they are still very young and might get better with age. They will play better with the above two points in mind (Offensive explosion). There is still time to add a defensive end that might not be too much of a drop off from what we could have gotten at the end of the 1st round (I'm guessing at that, from Dimitroff's point of view that is).
Plus, we have wiggle room in free agency.
So..after further review, I think the move makes us better. The running game will be better with the players we have at receiver. Think about it? Roddy White, Julio Jones, and Tony Gonzales in the middle...being thrown to by Matt Ryan.
I gotta tell you, I'm excited about the move.
Thoughts?

We did pay quite a bit. It was 2011 1st, 2nd, and 4th + 2012 1st and 4th = 2011 #6.
That is the price you pay when you want to move up 21 spots and draft an explosive/playmaker type.
I think for the Falcons offense, Julio may have graded out higher than AJ, so in their eyes they got the best WR in the draft.
Perhaps they felt like they should of moved up last season to get Pouncey or one of those other players but didnt, so this year they made sure they got their man no matter what the cost.
We still have alot of late picks and I think they must have some hidden gems picked out.
Akeem Dent is in the fold now. Must be going free agency for the DE.
